With Nigeria’s next general election just under two years away, political analysts and commentators are beginning to make bold predictions about the fate of key political figures and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is squarely in the spotlight.

A recent analysis of Nigeria’s evolving political landscape suggests that President Tinubu may face steep challenges securing re-election in 2027, with diminishing support across major geopolitical zones.

Southwest Erosion: Lagos and Osun Slipping Away?

Despite hailing from the Southwest and historically commanding significant influence in the region, Tinubu’s grip appears to be weakening in key states such as Lagos and Osun. Analysts argue that growing dissatisfaction among the youth, perceived disconnect from grassroots priorities, and strong opposition mobilization could lead to electoral losses in both states in 2027.

Northwest and Northeast: A Wall of Resistance

In the Northwest, traditionally a stronghold for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), shifting allegiances and rising security concerns are fueling skepticism with the CPC bloc under the control of Nasir Elrufai APC face’s an internal battle that will consume them. Observers argue that Tinubu may struggle to clinch even a single state in the zone, citing growing disillusionment among voters and some high Rankings members of the APC like Malami, Elrufai leading a coalition against APC.

A similar trend is projected in the Northeast, where the president is not expected to win any state, based on current dynamics. The zone’s deepening humanitarian challenges and insecurity ravaging the people of Borno, Yobe and Some part of Adamawa couple with Abbo And Binani factors working against the APC, coupled with underwhelming economic interventions, have reportedly eroded confidence in the presidency.

North Central: Mixed Fortunes

In the North Central region, President Tinubu may find limited success, with predictions suggesting potential victories only in Kwara and Niger States. However, states like Benue and Kogi once considered battlegrounds are now viewed as likely losses, driven by what critics call “growing disenchantment” with the APC’s governance.

South-South and the Risk of Rebellion

The South-South region, a key revenue-generating zone, is also poised to present challenges. While some suggest Tinubu may manage to secure Rivers State through “strategic influence” or controversial electoral maneuvers, the broader sentiment in the region is reportedly turning hostile, with analysts warning of a collective pushback against the APC in the zone.

South East: A Lost Cause?

The South East remains one of the most difficult regions for Tinubu’s administration to penetrate politically. Analysts refrain from further elaboration, noting that the political dynamics in the region may make it a no-go zone for the president in 2027.

A Stark Warning

Summarizing the projections, some political commentators assert that the only path for President Tinubu to avoid a potentially humiliating defeat in 2027 is to step aside and not seek re-election.

“The writing is on the wall,” one analyst said. “The only way Bola Tinubu can avoid defeat in 2027 is by not contesting. A word is enough for the wise.”

While the political climate remains fluid and two years is a long time in Nigerian politics, these early predictions underscore a rising wave of opposition and public dissatisfaction that could shape the country’s next electoral cycle.

As the 2027 race begins to take shape, all eyes will be on the political maneuvers of the ruling APC and how President Tinubu responds to a rapidly shifting national mood.
