President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate establishment of a dedicated forest guard force to take charge of the nation’s 1,129 forest reserves. This initiative underscores the President’s unwavering commitment to rooting out terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements utilizing these forests as havens for their illicit activities.
President Tinubu has directed that the newly established forest guards will undergo comprehensive training and be equipped with the necessary arms to effectively carry out their crucial mandate.

Their primary responsibility will be to actively flush out criminal gangs operating within these forest reserves, thereby restoring security and safety for citizens.
This critical security undertaking will be a collaborative effort between the Federal Government and State Governments, ensuring a coordinated and multi-layered approach to securing these vital territories.

The Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Federal Ministry of Environment have been jointly tasked with overseeing the full implementation of this directive, from the initial recruitment phase to the operational deployment of the forest guards.
This initiative is expected to generate significant employment opportunities for thousands of young Nigerians, who will serve as personnel of this vital new security outfit.

President Tinubu has previously issued a stern warning to terrorists and other criminal elements, reiterating his administration’s resolute stance against surrendering any part of Nigeria’s territory to their nefarious activities. The establishment of the forest guards demonstrates the President’s determination to actively reclaim and secure the nation’s forest reserves.
