Twenty-one APC governors have reportedly made a plea to former President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to remain loyal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling party amidst growing opposition momentum ahead of the 2027 elections. The governors’ closed-door meeting at Buhari’s Kaduna residence focused on countering the perceived threat of a coalition led by figures like Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi.
Sources indicate the governors specifically sought to dissuade Buhari from aligning with this opposition, particularly after El-Rufai, a close ally, revealed he had Buhari’s blessing before defecting to the SDP. Governor Hope Uzodimma, speaking after the meeting, portrayed Buhari as a “father in politics” and emphasized the APC’s strength. Kaduna Governor Uba Sani echoed this sentiment, praising Buhari’s continued support for Tinubu and the party. The governors’ visit underscores the APC’s efforts to consolidate its base and prevent defections as the political landscape heats up for the upcoming elections.
