Former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his courage in resisting what he described as the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike’s attempts to treat Rivers State as a personal fiefdom.
Speaking at a Christmas concert held in honor of Fubara and his family, Odili praised the governor for his fortitude in confronting what he termed an unnecessary yet intense political struggle instigated by Wike.
“Governor Fubara has shown exceptional bravery in liberating the people of Rivers and preventing the state from being seized as a private estate. His leadership has restored the joy and progress we once enjoyed until I left office in 2007,” Odili remarked.
He underscored the role of crisis as a sometimes necessary catalyst for governance, commending Fubara for turning conflict into an opportunity to reaffirm the state’s independence and unity.
In response, Governor Fubara credited his success in navigating the political turmoil to divine guidance and the unwavering support of the true people of Rivers.
“God is the ultimate liberator. The strength and encouragement from the people of Rivers have empowered me to remain steadfast for our state,” he stated.
Fubara reassured citizens that his administration would continue to prioritize the progress and prosperity of Rivers State.
“As we look forward to 2025, I am committed to making each year better than the last,” he pledged.
The evening also featured remarks from prominent leaders, including the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Oko-Jumbo, who shared insights into the legislature’s challenges during the crisis, and Chief Judge Justice Simeon Amadi, who commended Fubara’s resilience.
