ABUJA – Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, has launched a scathing critique against Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South), accusing him of decades of underperformance in the National Assembly, while contrasting his record with that of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central).
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Bwala asserted that Ndume, with 22 years of legislative experience—four in the House of Representatives and 16 in the Senate—has failed to adequately serve his constituents. He highlighted the plight of 120,000 displaced Borno South residents still living in Cameroon.
“This is a Senator who has been a lawmaker for the past 22 years; four years as a House of Representatives member, and about 16 years as a senator. Yet, 120,000 of his constituents are still in Cameroon as internally displaced persons,” Bwala stated.
He further accused Ndume of not leveraging his influential positions, including his tenures as Majority Leader and chairman of the Senate Committees on Defence and Army, to facilitate the resettlement of his displaced people. “If you want, I can give you the figures of the money allocated to Southern Borno as constituency projects, but there is no single project to show for it,” Bwala claimed.
Bwala also challenged Ndume’s legislative record, alleging that he has not successfully sponsored a bill. “He has never had a bill passed. In fact, 90 per cent of his bills don’t even make it past second reading, they are dismissed outright, not even brought up for debate.”
He also refuted Ndume’s claim of sponsoring the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) bill, crediting Senator Murtala Nyako instead.
Dismissing claims of Ndume’s active engagement with his constituents, Bwala said, “Is going to visit people now a project? Money has been sent to that place for actual projects. Even the boreholes he said he drilled, they are dry.” He also alleged that Ndume’s political career relied on state power rather than popular support.
Conversely, Bwala lauded Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating that her achievements in less than two years surpass Ndume’s 22-year record. “This Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has spent less than two years in office, yet she has done far more for her constituency than Ndume has in 22 years. I challenge him to come out and tell us what he has done. Even the House of Reps members from his constituency have done better than him,” Bwala concluded.
