The wife of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mrs Lilian Adebayo, has expressed confidence that the SDP will unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election if Nigerians are sincere about change.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday after a public event, Mrs Adebayo said the SDP has emerged stronger after resolving its internal crisis and expelling its former national chairman, Shehu Gabam, alongside other party executives.
According to her, the party’s internal restructuring has positioned it to provide credible leadership and offer Nigerians an alternative to the APC-led administration, which she said has failed to improve the lives of citizens.
“There is always a crisis in every political party, but the SDP has been able to handle its own. The problems in the party have been resolved,” she said.
Mrs Adebayo further noted that her husband, the SDP presidential candidate in 2023, stands a strong chance of winning the forthcoming election if Nigerians make honest choices at the polls.
“He has a great chance of winning the election if Nigerians are honest with themselves. If Nigerians think that the ones they consistently vote for would move the country forward, they live in denial,” she stated.
Her remarks come amid renewed calls by SDP state chairmen for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the party’s former national chairman, Shehu Gabam, over alleged financial misappropriation.
