An 18-year-old apprentice has reportedly caused a stir in Anambra State after allegedly impregnating ten girls within a mere five-month period. The startling incidents include his master’s daughter and a salesgirl during his initial apprenticeship.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, brought the issue to public attention in a live social media broadcast on Wednesday. According to Obinabo, the young man was initially placed under a master for trade learning. However, within three months, he allegedly impregnated both his boss’s daughter and a salesgirl, leading to his immediate dismissal.
The situation reportedly escalated upon his return to his village. Commissioner Obinabo stated that within two months back in his community, the apprentice is alleged to have impregnated an additional eight girls.
Obinabo recounted that the boy’s mother approached her office, expressing her distress. “Anytime I see a girl coming towards our house nowadays, my heart would jump, please, I need help,” the mother reportedly pleaded.
Visibly concerned, Obinabo admitted the complexity of the situation. “This matter is beyond me, the reason I want the public to help me come up with a solution. Is it spiritual?” she questioned.
During her interaction with the apprentice, Obinabo inquired about his methods of persuasion. She stated that the boy claimed he simply tells the girls he loves them and intends to marry them once he becomes wealthy.
“This problem is beyond me because of the boy’s age and the number of pregnant girls involved; that’s why I need help to solve it,” Obinabo reiterated, seeking public intervention for a resolution.
While Commissioner Obinabo withheld the names of the individuals and their community, her public appeal underscores the unusual and concerning nature of the case.
